For hundreds of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] years man has been fascinated by dinosaurs, but how much do we really know about them?
Dinosaurs lived during the what [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] we call the Mesozoic Era. This Era is commonly referred to as [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the age of the dinosaurs. This Era is divided into three categories, the first being the Triassic Period. In this Era the earliest dinosaurs started to appear, although very primitive. Some of the earliest dinosaurs recorded are the Eoraptor, Herrerasurus and the Staurikosaurus. Next comes the Jurassic Period, during this time dinosaurs really started [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to take of off, literally. Some reptiles even started to attempt [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] flight during this period. As the dinosaurs flourished, marine life was starting to become extinct. Last but not least comes the Cretaceous Period. During the Cretaceous Period dinosaurs were at there peak. Hundreds of new species were starting to appear and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] there level of complexity were on the rise. Sadly at the end of this Era there was a mass extinction event which practically wiped the dinosaurs off the face of the earth. Next we will discuss the probable theories on how this could of happened.
First we will discuss the most probable and well known theory known, the asteroid theory. It is believed that around 65 million [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] years ago a massive asteroid over 9 miles wide struck the earth in the now known Gulf of Mexico. This event would have sent tons of debris into the earths atmosphere completely blocking out the sun for over half a year. This would make it impossible for plant life to grow completely exhausting the herbivores food source making them extinct. This in turn would exhaust the food supply for the carnivores [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] which meant extinction for the dinosaurs.
Theory number two involves [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] something we know as the greenhouse effect. It is believed back in the Cretaceous Period. Massive amounts of carbon dioxide built up in the atmosphere from the vast amounts of volcanic activity present in the Cretaceous Period would have created both a magnifier for the suns damaging rays and a blanket for the suns heat. Eventually this may have melted the polar ice caps and flooded the earth, after the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] planet cooled down this would have sent the earth into a ice age killing the dinosaur [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] species.
